Most people love the idea of being home business owners and dream of working from home full time, however there is a very common misconception that somehow working from home will increase the productivity and efficiency of the person and generate tons of money without doing much work.
Nothing could be further from the truth and there is a good chance productivity will be decreased unless you are aware and make certain changes.
Working full time from home is a great idea and concept and there are millions of people around the world successfully operating home based businesses.
There are many advantages of working from home and if you want to be one of the successful home business owners I am going to give you some tips to follow.
But first I want you to imagine you are operating your own company and have your own private office.
Do you goof around and relax in the office or do you focus on getting the work done for the day?
Of course you focus on getting the work done for the day. Naturally, you take out some time for meal breaks and socializing with work colleagues, however most of the day is spent working on productivity.
The same applies to your home business and you need to focus on certain things to become more productive.
Don’t Mix Your Personal Matters During Your Work Hours
First the good news – You are your own boss!
Now the bad news – You are your own boss!
And everything is down to you and you are responsible for yourself.
When you work from home it can be easy to let days go by without taking any real action, kick your feet up and allow the day to pass you by.
However, to be successful in your home business you must be willing to get up and get to work.
Make it your goal to move your business on a day to day basis. This needs to be a major undertaking.
From my own experience when you work from home family members and friends seem to think you are free at anytime for them to come and visit or ask you to do something. They somehow think working from home is not a real job!
You must decide your own working hours and stay focused during your own working hours. Avoid, as much as possible, phone calls from family and friends during your work time.
Inform your family and friends your work hours and ask them to respect your work time and not to disturb you during your work hours as you will be unavailable.
Take your home business “work time” more seriously than you would take your 9-5 job as you are fully responsible for your productivity and your income. There is no boss looking over your shoulder when you are working from home and unless you are disciplined it is easy to get distracted with small things
Use Technology To Build Your Home Business
There may be times when you have an emergency and you have to leave the home during your working hours. Maybe your kids have a medical appointment and you are the only one who has to take them. With most of these appointment chances are you will waste a lot of time waiting for your turn.
In these situations modern technology is very useful in that you can work from anywhere as long as you have internet connection and a smartphone, which most people have these days.
You can use cloud technology and upload your important files and documents to places like Google Docs or Dropbox and access them from anywhere in the world.
As I said with your home business YOU are the boss. This means you have to take full responsibility and hold yourself accountable for all aspects of running your business.
This starts with setting your work schedule, creating goals that are action-oriented and achievable. Write down your goals and work your hardest to reach them. Make it a habit to write down your goals to see the success you would like to see.
